Welcome to Lower Dementia Risk
I’d like to share a bit of background on why I started Lower Dementia Risk, my vision for building a community focused on brain health, and what you can expect in terms of post frequency and content.
Why Now?
I’m at the beginning of an exciting journey—one that many others are on and even more should consider. It’s a journey centered on brain health.
My journey started when my dad passed away with Alzheimer’s, several years after my mom succumbed to the same disease. After losing them both, I felt stuck—convinced I was doomed to follow the same genetic, predetermined path toward dementia.
Then I discovered something powerful: even with a higher genetic risk, there are numerous lifestyle and environmental factors that can significantly reduce the chances of developing dementia. That realization was incredibly empowering. My cognition was (and is) just fine, but this journey isn’t about addressing symptoms—it’s about preventing them.
Over the past few years, I’ve been proactive, pulling many levers within my control: exercise, diet, sleep, alcohol intake, supplements, prescriptions, comprehensive blood and cognitive testing, and expanding my healthcare team to focus on prevention. And that’s just the beginning.
Let’s Build a Community
I’ve learned a lot, and I want to share it with you. If you’re on a similar path, I—and many others—would love to learn from your experiences, too. It’s time to open up the conversation about what we can do to slow cognitive decline—or, better yet, improve our chances of avoiding it altogether.
Frequency of Posts
The frequency, timing, and type of posts will vary from week to week. I don’t anticipate sending more than two posts a week, and realistically, it may be closer to one every two weeks. Some posts will dive into detailed, science-backed insights, while others will share personal stories—either mine or those of others on a similar journey. For now, let’s keep things flexible and open to the natural twists and turns of this adventure.
Here’s what I can promise: I won’t flood your inbox. I will never sell your email address. And you can unsubscribe anytime (though I’ll do my best to make sure you won’t want to).
The Lower Dementia Risk logo features a tree with brain-like folds and grooves, symbolizing the intricate balance between genetics, lifestyle, and environmental factors in brain health. It represents longevity, resilience, and the power of proactive care in shaping cognitive well-being.
The green and orange colors further reinforce this message—green symbolizes growth, healing, and wellness, while orange represents optimism, positivity, and transformation. Together, they reflect the journey of nurturing brain health and taking proactive steps toward a healthier future.
